Do I need iSeries Access for Windows installed to use the AS/400 Client Access Module for IBM iSeries? Yes. The custom module utilizes components of the iSeries Access for Windows software package to establish connectivity and retrieve data. Accordingly, iSeries Access for Windows must be installed on the same machine you intend to run GeoConnector from.
What are the advantages of using the AS/400 Client Access Module for IBM iSeries instead of using simple ODBC connectivity? The ODBC driver provided with IBM's iSeries Access for Windows software package does not use integrated authentication. This forces the user to provide log-in credentials every time the driver is called (which prevents automated/scheduled/un-attended execution), or, requires the user to cache their log-in credentials, which can cause an unintended security risk. The AS/400 Client Access Module for IBM iSeries encrypts & persists the users log-in credentials, and transparently authenticates to the AS/400 / iSeries server as needed to allow for automated, scheduled extracts of the data.
