DDA Viewer Economic Development Project
Project Description
The Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority (MCDDA) goals and objectives are "to halt property value deterioration and increase property tax valuation where possible in the business district and to eliminate the causes of that deterioration and to promote economic growth". The DDA accomplishes this mission in many ways from events promotion to guides and links for visitor and businesses. The DDA wished to utilize a public, GIS-enabled website for presenting available business spaces while showing surrounding aerial photos, businesses, buildings, historic sites, parking lots, parks, and other useful information.
InfoGeographics was contracted to develop a low cost GIS viewer that presented the information in an intuitive and powerful manner. The result was the Downtown Mount Clemens viewer, based upon Scaleable Vector Graphics (SVG) Internet technology and supported by ArcGIS and other databases and data.
Project Responsibilities
InfoGeographics followed a structured methodology to accomplish the project goals. These entail the following steps and methods:
Functional Specifications Determination
- IGI worked closely with MCDDA staff to document how the application would work, where source data comes from, how it's maintained, etc. to be used as a guide for the development efforts.
Website Development
- An SVG-based viewer was developed based on the application requirements that presents the pertinent data in a user-friendly fashion.
- Details on all the major mapping features are presented to the user in pop up boxes. This includes data on available space, existing businesses, buildings, historic sites, parking lots, parks, and future developments.
- Photos of interest for the Historic Sites are linked to their geographic location.
- IGI assisted MCDDA to establish and host the fully enabled site on their computer systems.
Ongoing Support
- InfoGeographics performs enhancements the viewer and supports the MCDDA efforts on an ad hoc basis.
