Racine County Sheriffs Department, Wisconsin

Street Centerline & GIS Mapping for E911

Project Description

Racine County committed to performing a major upgrade of their E911 system. InfoGeographics (IGI) partnered with Positron Public Safety Systems and was awarded this project through SBC with IGI as the digital mapping data integrator. Existing data from the County was available for property mapping and basic road linework, though not structured or enhanced for E911 uses.

The Sheriff's Department and the County wished to move this data into a GIS enabled format compatible with the Positron PowerMap application and useful for other address-based purposes as well. IGI collected existing source data and materials, and using a combination of sources and advanced techniques, developed a highly accurate attributed road centerline for the Emergency Services and general County applications. This included refined spatial alignment to the County's orthophotography and full reconciliation with the Countywide Master Street Address Guide (MSAG), as maintained through County agencies and SBC.

Project Responsibilities

InfoGeographics followed a structured methodology to accomplish the project goals. These entail the following steps and methods:

Retrieve and Format Existing Documents and Data
Develop a "Preliminary" Attributed Road Centerline File and other layers
Field Verification and Quality Control
Final Data Delivery
